The Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing is at Level 2 on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).
Entry Requirements:
- Some experience of gym-based exercises, including free weights, is highly recommended.
- The course requires physical exertion, and individual participation is essential; therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary.
- There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 2.
- Must be over 16 years of age
Purpose
This qualification aims to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to be able to plan, deliver and supervise safe and effective exercise programmes within a gym or health club environment. During the qualification learners will cover:
- Anatomy, physiology and nutrition and how they relate to exercise and fitness.
- Health and safety in the fitness environment.
- The skills to conduct client and group inductions in a gym-based environment and support exercise adherence and a healthy lifestyle.
- The skills to plan, instruct and supervise safe and effective exercise and physical activity sessions.
- Professionalism for fitness instructing.
- Personal and professional development.
- Delivering exceptional customer service.

What you qualify with
This combined course is accredited and endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) and will give you a total of:

Course Style & Duration
Study through blended learning, which combines in-person training with independent e-learning study. This balances learning from home and attending regular practical workshops. This provides you with the opportunity to attend face to face instruction with a Tutor, then study and revise online at your own pace.
Course 1: Attendance in person is required from 9.00am to 5.00pm on the following days:
Friday 15, Monday 18, Tuesday 26, Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 July
Follow up in person: Monday 15 and Wednesday 17 August
Assessment days: Wednesday 24, Thursday 25 or Friday 26 August
Course 2: Attendance in person is required from 9.00am to 5.00pm on the following days:
Monday 1, Tuesday 2, Wednesday 3, Thursday 4 and Friday 5 August
Follow up in person: Thursday 18 and Friday 19 August
Assessment days: Wednesday 24, Thursday 25 or Friday 26 August
The qualification is assessed by completing a coursework portfolio and a face-to-face practical assessment. Once you have completed your coursework using an interactive E-learning platform you will be invited to attend a practical assessment day.

- Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training.
- Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral.
- Active IQ Level 3 Award in Designing Prenatal and Postnatal Exercise Programmes.
- Active IQ Level 3 Award in Designing Exercise Programmes for Older Adults.
- Active IQ Level 3 Award in Designing Exercise Programmes for Disabled Clients.

How You’ll Be Assessed
To qualify with your Level 2 Gym Instructor certificate, you will be required to complete a selection of assessments.
Multiple choice Open book online exam on anatomy and physiology – 70% pass required
Multiple choice Open book online paper on principles of exercise and health – 70% pass required
Practical Assessment on delivering a gym-based induction – Pass required

- Passport – A valid passport of any nationality with your photograph and signature
- Photo Card Driving Licence – A valid UK only driving licence with a photograph and signature
- Non UK Driving Licence – Showing a photograph and printed full name
- EU Country ID Card – Showing a photograph and printed full name
- CSCS Scheme Card or partner card showing the CSCS logo (Hologram)- Showing a photograph and printed initial and surname
- Citizen Card – Showing a photograph and printed full name
- British Armed Forces Card – Showing a photograph and for employee of Armed Forces
- New Veterans ID Card
- Proof of Age Card – Cards issued nationally in the UK by the Portman Group. Showing a photograph and signature
